Frequently Asked Questions

What type of spaces do you organize?

Any space with clutter or forgotten intention can be transformed through organization! Homes, offices and classrooms of all sizes. Whether it's one small space you've been meaning to get to or an overhaul for the entire area. All you need is a vision; I'll bring the solutions.

who should use a professional organizer?

Anyone can benefit from having an organizer refresh a space with systems that work for each client. There are countless reasons why someone might turn to a professional and every single one is valid! Some people may never have been taught organizing basics, others are too busy to upkeep the systems in place and need a change. Life circumstances, good and hard, create fluidity in our lives and typically require a change in the way we operate at home. Professional organizers exist to help adjust without judgement. If you're feeling stuck or overwhelmed by any amount of stuff in your home, it's time to ask for help. It's what we love doing.

What are the benefits of organizing?

There are an incredible number of benefits once you declutter and maintain organization in your daily life. Some are visible, others internal, most are priceless. Both short and long term organization gains you time, money, and the ability to focus on the important people and activities in your life. When you hire a professional organizer to implement systems that work, you’ll notice decreased stress and anxiety levels, feel a sense of calm, empowerment, and a higher level of happiness. Eliminating the distraction of clutter allows you to be physically and mentally present within relationships, leading to overall increased mental health as well. In simple terms : life gets a lot better.

Why do you focus on sustainability?

We need to protect the world we live in, leaving things better than we found it. Especially after kids, I began to notice the condition of the environment we were setting up for future generations and wanted to make a positive change. Incorporating a sense of the natural world in a home has proven benefits to your mental and physical well-being. Recognizing the greater effect of 'stuff' means being intentional with every item we come to own. We can declutter repeatedly, but if our intentions don't change, the consumption continues and consequences last (literally) forever. My biggest passion lies not just in the health of people, but all forms of life. Every piece of our earth deserves to be here, safe and healthy. Providing The Biophilic Perspective to others is my way of improving those elements for all of us.

I want to get organized but I'm not ready (or interested) in focusing on sustainability.

Where you are is where you need to be right now. The desire to get organized is a great one, and once you start it becomes contagious. Setting up systems that work for you will naturally bring in a layer of sustainability. If that's all it does, it's a beautiful step forward. If you'd like to take environmentalism farther, I'm ready to get you there as well.

organization sounds nice, but I'll always be a messy person

Tidy is a preference! Organized means every item has a home + there's a method for getting it there. Tidy is how quickly things are put back. You can be tidy OR messy AND organized.

I've tried to get organized on my own, but it never lasts. What am I doing wrong?

There are a few possibilities. The systems put in place may not be ones that match your current lifestyle and need adjustments. Maybe the order of operations was mixed up. Each step is crucial, and order does matter. A common error that occurs is trying to organize clutter; it never lasts. Maintenance may have been forgotten - once a system is in place, you must be intentional with all future items that make their way into your sanctuary. The concepts are simple, but the process is often not as easy. Fortunately that's where I come in to coach and support you along the way!

What if I'm not ready to get rid of all of my stuff?

You don’t have to! Through my process we decide together what is positively serving you, and what is not. If something no longer fits a function to an area, we will either let go of it altogether, or simply find a new home where it can better serve in its space.

Are there specific services not included?

While I will help with general cleaning as we set up a space, I do not do housekeeping or deep cleaning. With safety prioritized for both the client and organizer, if there is an active pest infestation, large amounts of mold, or is a space where azogue (mercury) has been used, I can suggest professional alleviation companies to call and have them removed prior to our sessions.

Will my information remain private?

Absolutely. You will have the option in a written agreement to permit anonymous photo usage, beyond that everything remains confidential. This includes public spaces; unless a client initiates contact, I follow your lead to protect full anonymity.

Working with Sydney was such a turning point for my family and I. She inspired us, supported us and helped coach us through transforming our basement from a junk pile into a fully functional work space, which had been our intention for well over a year but we were simply too daunted to meaningfully start on our own. She also helped us tackle our kids' art and play spaces in a way that has been so logical and beneficial for us and our kids - our home is finally becoming the space that we’ve dreamed it could be but could never seem to make happen!
