When Less Gives You More: ENERGY

Coffee...sleep...exercise...energy drinks. We have so many methods as an attempt at grasping just a little more energy throughout our days. Truth is, we probably need to focus a bit on our physical health, and lot more on our mental wellbeing. Eating certain foods can naturally energize us. Keeping our bodies moving in various ways helps us stay active. These are true, but if you are stuck in a mental paralysis due to a constant struggle with feelings of overwhelm and anxiety, odds are your physical health is not a top priority at the moment.

A great way to gain energy is to improve your health. In doing so, you must first feel it mentally before you'll have the ambition to act on it physically. This starts with showing yourself some kindness.

People acquire stuff for countless reasons. It was on sale, there was a BOGO deal, it was a gift, maybe you'll use it someday, it was part of a past life's hobby, it was an impulse buy, a pick-me-up when I was feeling down, a travel memento, a guilt-purchase. Whatever the cause, if there wasn't meaningful intention behind acquiring it, there's a good chance you no longer need (or want) it. Show your future self some kindness, and move forward without any items that just came to mind.

By reducing what you have, you open up the possibility in giving yourself more time to rest and rejuvenate. You have fewer items to clean, wash, put away, fix, find, and manage overall. Taking care of a house full of 'stuff' takes a lot of work, even more energy...and that doesn't take into consideration the fact that many people have some sort of dependent life to look after as well.

Life is exhausting, and it's time to find the places that we can regain some energy back to focus on ourselves, activities we enjoy, and the people we want to share our time with.

In today's society we are expected to wake up earlier, work longer and harder, come home and be a functioning part of a social community to be deemed successful. It's too much. We try to stretch a 24 hour day into something it's not, and wonder why the coffee isn't feeling strong enough in the morning.

'Less gives us more' is a concept that applies to our physical items, but it also includes our mental agendas. If something in your life is not affecting you in a positive way, be done with it. People, activities, and the items you own should challenge you in a healthy way, but they also need to recharge your mental health. When you feel good about one thing, it often motivates the next, and compounds into a very positive and ambitious mindset.

In having less, you are giving yourself more. Energy is direcetly correlated to both physical and mental health, and when you have a clear space, you allow yourself to think with a clear mind. From there, life only gets better. Adding a cup of coffee in the morning doesn't hurt either.

Working with Sydney was such a turning point for my family and I. She inspired us, supported us and helped coach us through transforming our basement from a junk pile into a fully functional work space, which had been our intention for well over a year but we were simply too daunted to meaningfully start on our own. She also helped us tackle our kids' art and play spaces in a way that has been so logical and beneficial for us and our kids - our home is finally becoming the space that we’ve dreamed it could be but could never seem to make happen!
